3. How can I try the extra functions before upgrading?
4. Does VSampler DXi run on the newer Sonar versions?
5. My Sonar CD cover says it includes VSampler 3.7 - is that a newer version than yours?
6. I purchased the upgrade, but VSampler is still DXi-only or doesn't accept my new key - why?
7. How to get the latest free VSampler OEM version update?
8. Sonar 3 Producer (US release 2003 only): How to get rid of the hardware-dependent VSampler registration?

1. To whom does this FAQ section apply?
Solely to owners of the VSampler OEM version "VSampler 3.0 DXi" which was part of Cakewalks "Sonar 3 Producer Edition" in 2003 and 2004 (not longer available). Please check the special upgrade section for all details. The questions below do NOT apply to owners of the independent VSampler 3 version bought in the MAZ shop.

2. Why should I upgrade to the full VSTi-DXi-ReWire-Standalone version?

Purchasing the upgrade will release the full power of VSampler 3.5. It will give you new advanced functions which were not included in "VSampler 3.0 DXi" of Cakewalk Sonar 3 PE.

Power boost

Improved performance, no instrument size limits anymore, even more import formats, dedicated drum sampler effect power:

  • DRC Pro: playback instruments of any size without being limited by RAM size
  • RAMbo: improve performance and reduce system load for instruments which are way larger than your RAM
  • import the formats ReCycle™ (RCY, REX, RX2), Kontakt™, Battery™ and E-MU™ III / IV CD
  • group effects and individual outputs at Sample level, e. g. to add different effects to the bass-drum and snare-drum of a drum kit, or to send their signals to different mixer channels of the sequencer

Compatibility boost

No sequencer borders anymore, use VSampler and your soundlibraries with 100% identical sound in any well-known sequencer:

The Standalone version also lets you use VSampler without a sequencer as a live instrument. Up to 16 individual stereo outputs are available when using multi-channel soundcards (ASIO or DirectSound).

3. How can I try the extra functions before upgrading?
You need to run VSampler in demo mode. This can be done either by simply starting VSampler outside of Sonar (Standalone or VSTi) or temporarily change the first character of the registration key. Be sure to remember the original one to be able to quickly change it back! :-)

4. Does VSampler DXi run on the newer Sonar versions?
Yes. But VSampler isn't DXi only - this is just a limit of Cakewalks VSampler OEM version. You're welcome to upgrade to the latest and independent version of VSampler 3.52, which gives you all the new functions plus full VSTi-DXi-Standalone-ReWire flexibility.

5. My Sonar CD cover says it includes VSampler 3.7 - is that a newer version than yours?
No, that's just a misprint at Cakewalks side. No matter what the sticker inside your Sonar 3 CD cover claims, the CD contains either VSampler version 3.0 or 3.01, both from 2003. We don't know what happend, Sonar owners reported their stickers say VSampler 3.2 or 3.3 or 3.4 or 3.7 or 3.9 - all those versions never existed. Please check the VSampler download page to update to the latest VSampler version.

To check your current VSampler version click at "Help" --> "About" in VSamplers menu.

6. I purchased the upgrade, but VSampler is still DXi-only or doesn't accept my new key - why?
You're either using an old VSampler version or still your DXi-only registration key. Both need to be replaced - that's why you purchased the upgrade! :-) Get VSampler 3.5 and fetch your new registration key by clicking at the registration link in the "order shipped!" email you got.

To check your current VSampler registration level click at "Help" --> "About" in the menu. Everything is fine if the "Product" line shows nothing but the program version number (without "DXi" or "S3P OEM" extension) and the line below your email address starts with "Full ...".

7. How to get the latest free VSampler OEM version update?
You are welcome to download VSampler 3.5  - it updates every VSampler 3 version, just the result is a bit different. The update gives you all existing bugfixes and improvements of 3.0 functions plus dozens of new functions for free. But since Cakewalks VSampler license was tied to the "VSampler 3.0 DXi" feature-set this means: when used with the VSampler serial number which came with Sonar 3 there will be two major limits:
  • Compatibility Boost not included: your VSampler will stay DXi-only (see upgrade offer below)
  • Power Boost not included: some of the new powerful functions of VSampler 3.5 won't be available (see upgrade offer below)

To release the full power of VSampler 3.5 (and future 3.x versions) those extra functions incl. full VSTi-DXi-Standalone-ReWire flexibility can be added within a few minutes by purchasing the upgrade online.

8. Sonar 3 Producer (US release 2003 only): How to get rid of the hardware-dependent VSampler registration?
Download and install VSampler 3.5. All VSampler versions since version 3.01 (October 2003) use a simplified registration scheme without any hardware-check, i. e. your registration key is valid for all future 3.x versions at every hardware.
